Little Jumping Joan

There’s a pile of mulch at the end of our driveway–the kind that’s made of shredded bits of bark. We’ve had a lot of rain lately and there are mushrooms (toadstools?) growing there. They make me think of marshmallows, which leads to thoughts of S’mores…but those white caps also remind me of an old childhood poem (the accompanying illustration was a jumping mushroom):

Here I am,
little Jumping Joan;
when no one is with me
I’m all alone. –Mother Goose Nursery Rhymes–

Mushrooms in the Mulch, Watermark Floral Redux June 23 2014 027

I enlarged the shot because the texture of the mushroom caps was interesting. Thanks for viewing and if you’re so inclined, leave a comment. 🙂
